Understanding Reflexology and its benefits on the body

All hail the newest stress-buster on the block!

Reflexology is based on the theory that parts of the body can be accessed by applying pressure on certain points on the hands and feet. This therapy is used to reduce anxiety and pain, promote healthy blood circulation, and encourage deep healing of the body. The most prevalent form of Reflexology is Foot Reflexology

What is Reflexology used for?

Reflexology has been proven to effectively treat stress, and anxieties. It is a massage therapy that initiates relaxation, effectively improving the body’s nervous system.

What to expect in a typical Reflexology session?

Typically, a Reflexologist begins the session by taking down your medical history to understand your pain points. This gives the therapist a better understanding of the patient’s underlying conditions. The patient is then ushered into a chair or massage table where their feet and part of their legs are sanitised. Now, the therapist will start working on activating the reflex points on the feet one at a time, until the entire body has been treated.

During the session, the therapist increases or decreases pressure according to the stiffness or blockages they may notice in the patient’s body. Once the session is complete, the patient will be extremely relaxed and it is recommended that the patient revel in that calm state for a few minutes before bringing their senses into the present. Common after-treatment experiences included a feeling of increased energy, pain-relief, or a good old adrenalin rush.

How many times should you get a Reflexology session?

Before booking a follow-up session for your Reflexology treatment, patients are advised to speak to the therapist to determine what is a good number of times one should get a Reflexology massage. If you are looking to book one, get in touch with one of Cool Aroma therapists who can assist you from booking the session to leaving it, absolutely relaxed and full of life.
